Tuesday News—Books as Gifts

Today is the release day for The Daily Coyote: A Story of Love, Survival, and Trust in the Wilds of Wyoming by Shreve Stockton. I’ve really been looking forward to this book and can’t wait for my copy to arrive. Someone on my Christmas gift list will also receive a copy.

From what I’ve gleaned from the author’s website, she moved to Wyoming from NYC and soon adopted a 10-day-old orphaned coyote, who she named Charlie. Charlie still lives with her, and his life has been well documented and beautifully captured in photographs.

To celebrate the book’s release, she’s doing a live BogTV broadcast from Wyoming today and inviting everyone to tune in. Anyone can watch, or you can create an account and log in to chat. Check her website for complete details about the book and today's broadcast.

While I’m on the subject of books as gifts, have you considered giving an electronic book as a gift this Christmas? My December '07 Harlequin American Romance, With This Ring, is still available from eHarlequin.com and Amazon.com (Kindle edition).

More on Cowboys and Coyotes

Remember my post—Of Cowboys and Coyotes—a couple of months ago?

Okay, so here’s the latest. Shreve Stockton at The Daily Coyote is selling 2009 calendars. The coyote calendar showcases some of her wonderful shots of Charlie, the coyote. But the cowboy calendar . . . oh, my.

Do we care that we don’t get to see MC’s face?

Not. A. Chance.

Actually, I think I might be just the teensiest bit in love with that cowboy. The coyote, too. Of course. But mostly the cowboy.

In my previous post, I told you that Shreve’s photographs of MC had given me an idea for a romance novel.

Sunday Fun—Of Cowboys and Coyotes

I visit a handful of blogs every day, and The Daily Coyote is one of them. It’s hosted by Shreve Stockton, a woman who lives in a one-room cabin in Wyoming with a cat, a dog, and a coyote.

She rescued Charlie, the coyote, when he was ten days old and has since parlayed her experience with him into a book that’ll be published this fall by Simon and Schuster.

Don’t you just love success stories like this? I sure do.

I’ve never met Shreve but I thoroughly enjoy her photographs and the tidbits of information she posts about life with Charlie and life on a ranch in Wyoming. She often mentions her neighbor, MC, but has never really said much about him.

Until yesterday.

Now, for the first time since I’ve been following Shreve’s blog, I’m cooking up the plot for a romance novel.

Sorry. Can’t help myself.

I know nothing about these people, other than what’s posted on the blog, but I could easily concoct story about a kick-butt city gal and a shy cowboy who’ve been introduced by the world’s least likely matchmaker—an orphaned coyote.

Poor MC. Still anonymous and yet the object of so many affections. Every cowboy’s worst nightmare, every romance reader’s fondest fantasy.

Thanks, Shreve, for feeding the fantasy.
